This process helps break down the tissues and make the meat more tender. Also, they are often used to make meat stock and can be served as a normal cut of meat as well. In addition, this part of the pig’s body contains a lot of collagen when cooked. This collagen is responsible for the health benefits of eating pig’s feet, which include maintaining healthy skin, relieving joint pain and contributing to muscle gain.

Ingredients

  • Eight (8) pig’s feet, split
  • One onion, chopped
  • Two tablespoons seasoned salt
  • One tablespoon chopped garlic
  • One teaspoon of ground black pepper
  • Two bay leaves
  • ¾ cup white vinegar

Direction

  • Wash the pig’s feet thoroughly in cold water and place it into a large pot. Use a knife to scrape it clean. It is a good idea to ask the butcher to split it for you during purchase, to make preparation easier. Some traditions will advise rinsing with vinegar.
  • Add the onion, seasoned salt, garlic, black pepper, vinegar and bay leaves.
  • Pour in water and cover.
  • Put the pot on heat and bring to a boil. Then, reduce the heat to low and braise until the meat is tender and falling off the bones. The process can take up to two hours.
  • Your pig’s feet is ready to be enjoyed.
